Email Writer Girl Saves the Day

Faster than office rumors, more powerful than good strategy, able to leap poor planning in a single bound. The child of Writeon is now the Woman of Miracles: Email Writer Girl!

I’m here to fix all your problems with a single email. <swoosh> Ta-dah! No need to thank me; it’s my job.

<sigh>

When I have the opportunity to explain change management, this is the question I pose: “Have you ever received an email on a Monday telling you about a training on Wednesday for a new software you have to start using on Friday?” “Yes”, is the reply.  It’s always yes. “Well, that’s NOT change management.”, I say with a smile.

I then proceed with my speech on what effective change management looks like. But I’ll spare you, because, as an expert in change communications, I know I only have a few more seconds of your attention.

Communicating during times of change is about understanding your audiences (your many, many audiences), answering their “What’s in it for me?”, creating a two-way dialogue, anticipating risks and objections.

It is not sending the perfect email. And your comms person knows this. Don’t expect her (or him) to don the cape of Email Writer Girl (or Guy). Let them show you their true superpower—enabling change through effective communication.
